Micram lives a “The World is a Village” attitude, leveraging the Internet to shrink distance and expand opportunity as a modern virtual corporation. Research and Engineering are located in Bochum and Saarbücken, Germany while Sales and Marketing operate from Burlingame, California as well as Auckland, New Zealand.
Our management team and project management staff contribute regularly to conferences and workshops around the world (see our selected publication list). Perhaps our most successful management achievement at Micram is our unique closed-loop development approach, in which our silicon designers are personally responsible for performing the characterization of their designs in our clean-room measurement lab. We believe this discipline is greatly responsible for the extraordinary success rate of Micram silicon development projects.
Prof. Michael Möller
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Möller has been developing advanced high speed circuits using silicon-bipolar technologies since 1992. His special focus is on the parasitic effects of circuits and their packaging and assembly technology. Many of his chip designs, which he developed with Micram team members and partners (especially Infineon Technologies) have achieved world records for speed and performance. Prof. Möller graduated in 1987 from the Institute Nachrichten- und Mikroprozessortechnik at Fachhochschule Giessen. After a research project in the EMV Laboratory of Bosch Telenorma, he continued his studies 1989 with the Institute of Theoretische Elektrotechnik und Hochfrequenztechnik at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Prof. Möller was a research assistant at Arbeitsgruppe Halbleiterbauelemente with Professor Hans-Martin Rein and received his Ph.D. for work on high-speed circuits for telecommunication applications. He was a major contributor to the development of demonstration circuits running at speeds up to 60Gb/s as key components in fiber-optical transmission systems. After completing the development of the world’s first integrated receiver chip for data rates beyond 40 Gbit/s as part of the BMBF Komnet project, Prof. Möller joined Micram in 1999. In 2001 he was promoted to VP of Engineering and named an executive board member. In January 2005, Prof. Möller was appointed Professor of Lehrstuhl für Elektronik und Schaltungstechnik at Universität des Saarlandes, while he continues as CTO of Micram.
Dr. Matthias Tom Frei
Dr. Frei holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, and has 19 years of entrepreneurial and senior management experience. He has founded several companies in both Germany and New Zealand engaged in a variety of technology sectors including software, microelectronics design, cloud computing, and software distribution. Under Dr. Frei’s leadership these companies have achieved multi-million Euro annual revenues. His key roles have included CEO, CFO, CTO, VP of Marketing, VP of Sales, and Director. With his visionary approach, Dr. Frei took the emerging Object Database Technology to the German market in the early 1990.s and achieved great success in ODBMS distribution and implementation projects for more than 10 years. He is a member of the New Zealand Ice Angels, a network of angel investors, and the NZ Institute of Directors.
Dr. Rolf Schmid
Dr. Schmid received his engineer’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1993 from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany. He then joined the Institute of Microelectronics, Arbeitsgruppe Halbleiterbauelemente as a research assistant under Professor Hans-Martin Rein, and in 2000 was awarded his Ph.D. in the field of high-speed laser and modulator driver circuits, utilizing SiGe technology. In 1998 Dr. Schmid joined Micram in Bochum as senior design engineer and managed many high-speed circuit design projects in both the telecommunications and precision high speed automated test equipment fields. In 2001 he joined the senior management team and became a fellow partner of Micram. Currently his role is VP of Engineering, as well as Authorized Officer of Micram.
Paul De Zan
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. De Zan joined the Micram team in June 2008 with a mission to accelerate the Company.s transition to a product-oriented business model. Mr. De Zan created and implemented a low-cost marketing program that quickly and dramatically raised the Company.s market presence and enabled the successful launch of the VEGA product line. Largely through his efforts, the Company has validated that its leading-edge niche technologies can be sold as standard products when marketed correctly. Mr. De Zan has an extensive background in corporate and technology marketing, strategic and operational planning and corporate communications, as well as significant executive-level management experience in both public and private firms. He has held senior positions in companies ranging from Cisco Systems to small startup firms engaged in telecommunications, applications software, and consumer electronics. Most recently he served in vice president roles with Extreme Networks and Emagia Corporation and as CEO in two startup technology ventures.
